St. Vincents Way – Alentejo & West Algarve

This seven or eleven night walking holiday offers you a chance to walk part of the new ‘Rota Vicentina’ or St Vincents Way – a new footpath along the west coasts of the Algarve & Alentejo with stunning coastal scenery all within the Natural Park.

This walking experience is for those who really do want to get away from it all.

Beyond the MountainsDay 1. Arrive in the small town of Cercal do Alentejo with time to relax and enjoy a glass or two of the local wine (there is a direct bus from Lisbon).

Day 2. A walk through unspoilt countryside and woods where your path takes you to the ‘Fishermans route’ and the coastal village of Porto Covo, 18km. Overnight Porto Covo

Day 3. A walk south along the coast. You walk through sand dunes (which can be tiring but rewarding) and then along cliff tops to the old coastal town of Vila Nova de Milfontes where you can relax in the old historical centre, 20km. Overnight VN Milfontes

Day 4. After yesterdays exertions todays walk is easy but again beautiful with a combination of pine woods, cliff tops and deserted beaches all the way to the tiny village of Almograve, 16km. Overnight Almograve

Beyond the MountainsDay 5. Continuing south on the coastal path you visit the old light house of Cabo Sadao pass through the village of Cavaleiro before arriving at the very pretty fishing and beach village of Zambujeira do Mar, 21km. Overnight Zambujeira

Day 6. A quite spectacular walk on the cliff tops today as you pass the pretty fishing village of Azenha do Mar before dropping down to the Ceixe river valley and the town of Odeceixe at the northern tip of the Algarve, 18km. Overnight Odeceixe

Day 7. A circular walk first along the Ceixe river valley (home to a variety of birds) to the amazing beach of Odeceixe – considered to be one of the 7 ‘wonders’ of Portugal. Then you continue along the cliff tops and back through unspoilt countryside to Odeceixe, 13km. Overnight Odeceixe

Day 8. Depart (there is a bus direct from Odeceixe to Lisbon).

Extra 4 nights itinerary Odeceixe to Sagres

Day 8. Walk up out of Odeceixe and then follow for most of the day the Mira irrigation canal before dropping down to the old Moorish town of Aljezur famed for its ruined castle, 18km. Overnight Aljezur

Day 9. A short transfer to the start of the walk around the spectacular Pontal headland with its stunning coastal scenery to the village of Carrapateira and then on to the restored village of Pedralva, 18km. Overnight Pedralva

Day 10. You resume your walk through totally undeveloped countryside and beaches to the town of Vila do Bispo, 13km. Overnight Vila do Bispo.

Day 11. A walk along the Sagres Peninsula to finish at the ‘end of the world’ – Cape St Vincent what a fabulous last day! 13km / 9miles. Overnight Sagres

Day 12. Depart – we transfer you to Lagos where you can take either a train or bus to either Faro or Lisbon

Cost per person for 4 extra nights, transfers as detailed, luggage movement and 4 picnics
